“I speak to everyone in the same way, whether he is the garbage man or the president of the university.”
― Albert Einstein

Why do people usually weigh the amount of respect they give a person? Is it because they base it on the way other people treat them?

If the people around us will always be our basis of the standard of respect, then we will find it hard to just freely give respect to anyone. We will always experience disappointments because we keep expecting from the uncertain. We will always wait for others to deal with us on their own behavior before we give something in return.

Remember the saying: “It is better to give than to receive”? Then would it hurt if we try to freely give respect to anyone? I hope not.

Why not use ourselves as our own standard of respect. How much respect do you give yourself? Then try giving that same respect to others whether they give you anything less or anything more. I believe in this way we could lessen expectations and disappointments and just treat people fairly; because we have instill in our minds and in our being that no matter how anyone treat us, we our confident we deal with them with just and respect that we anticipate from ourselves.

P.S.: I also believe some people are just too rude, handle then fairly and just anyway. It’s all in the attitude and how you handle the situation.

Make this world a better place 🙂
